About the festival

Naniwa Yodogawa Fireworks Festival is held every October along the Yodo River in Osaka and is one of the Kansai region's largest fireworks displays. Unlike many of Japan's summer fireworks festivals, it takes place in autumn, giving visitors a cooler alternative to the peak-season events held in July and August.

The display is launched from the riverbank and viewed from both sides of the Yodo River, with the open, flat terrain along the water giving a wide, unobstructed view of the fireworks for much of the route. The festival typically features several thousand fireworks over the course of the display.

Because the viewing area stretches along a long section of riverbank, it's possible to find a spot without needing to arrive extremely early, though the areas closest to the launch site fill up faster than those further along the river.

The 2026 festival is scheduled for 17 October.
